Lloyd E. Turner Sr., 89, died peacefully on September 19, 2016 at a Bangor Health Care facility. He was born on February 10, 1927 in Danforth the son of Harry E. and Jessie M (Kelley) Turner of Verona Island.
Lloyd attended schools in Prospect, Verona Island and Bucksport until his family moved to Portland during World War II. He worked part time as a welder for South Portland Ship Yard until he graduated from Portland High. He then joined the Navy and served with the Naval Combat Air Crew stationed in San Juan, Puerto Rico. After his discharge he returned to Verona Island and married Gloria M. Candage in 1949 and raised their son and daughter in Bucksport and East Orland.
Lloyd graduated from Robert School or Barbering and attended Husson College for accounting before he was employed at the Bucksport Paper Mill where he worked in Analytical Lab until he retired after 46 years. He was a member of the Verona Island American Legion and Masons.
Lloyd is survived by his wife of 67 years Gloria M. Turner, his son Lloyd E. Turner Jr. and wife Jana of East Orland, daughter Lee A. Hall or Bangor, four grandchildren; Jennifer Willy and husband John and their son Andrew of Easley SC, Darice McIntire and son’s Brandon and Bryce Cammack of Bangor, Jeszel Laurence and husband Toby and their daughter Sadie Lanpher and sons Caleb and Cameron Lawrence all of Bucksport, Laura Hall and daughter Jade Moore of Bangor, Sister-in-law Donna Violett and husband Levi of East Orland, Brother-in-law Robert M. Candage and spouse Owen of Cleveland, OH, Nieces; Loretta Watt and husband Gerald of Verona Island and Jackie Oliver and husband Owen of Verona Island, Rosemary and Colleen and families, Special cousin Vernon LaPointe and wife Vivian and families of York, and several great and great-great nieces and nephews every where.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Monday September 26, 2016 at Riverview Cemetery on the River Road in Bucksport with Pastor Peter Remick officiating. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home and Cremation Services. (mitchelltweedie-young.com)
