Obituary

Searsport- Althea Minnie Doliber 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday afternoon the 10th of September at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough after a long struggle with Dementia. Althea was born in Stockton Springs as the only child of Edna Clark Thompson and Byron Clark on November 20, 1930. She attended the local schools and in 1948 graduated from Stockton Springs High School near the top of her class.
On the 14th of October she married Fred R Doliber, Jr upon his return from his tour in the Navy. They lived in Stockton Springs for few years and moved to Searsport where they have lived on Norris St for the last 55 years. If you walked down Norris Street you would always be greeted by a “Hello” from a smiling Althea as she sat on the porch of their home. Sometimes people would stop and chat. It was a ritual, if you walked down to the wharf you met Althea on the way.
In the early years she enjoyed beach cookouts with the family on Sears Island. She was particularly fond of the frequent camping vacations with her husband going Down East and to Campobello Island.
Althea was an avid reader of paperback novels and there was not a crossword puzzle she couldn’t finish. She loved to listen to country music especially Hank Williams and Conway Twitty.
She took delight in the visits by her grandchildren and loved making blueberry muffins and brownies that would mysteriously disappear. She enjoyed many community activities and developed close friendship with her neighbors. If you knew her you will miss her.

Althea is predeceased by her parents and her stepfather Percy Thompson. She is survived by her husband of 70 years Fred R. Doliber, Jr currently of Westbrook, Maine, her son Fred B Doliber and his wife Carmen of Arundel, Maine, a daughter Karen E Doliber of Searsport soon to be Saco Maine as well as one granddaughter, three step grandchildren and seven step-great granddaughters and also by nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family and friends will gather for visitation from 12-1pm until the time of service at 1pm on Monday September 16, 2019 at Young Funeral Home 31 West Main St. Searsport.
In lieu of flowers the family would greatly appreciate memorial contributions in Althea’s name to Gosnell Memorial Hospice House 11Hunnewell Rd Scarborough Maine 04074 or to any of the Dementia foundations. (mitchelltweedie-young.com)

Thinking and praying for all of you. We're reminded by an old proverb that says, "Rembering is to live, forgetting is to die". Don't stop loving her. She will inspire you and continue to be a part of your lives.

Lots of love, Marc & Pat
